We've been busy working on what we think is one of biggest updates to Trophy since we launched 12 months ago!

Email builder is here! ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽจ

When we launched our MVP back in 2024, we had a basic system that allowed any web or mobile app to quickly start sending gamified emails to users based on the following three triggers:

  • New achievements unlocked
  • Weekly/monthly progress recaps
  • Reactivations or 'win-backs' after inactivity

This worked great, and we've seen customers who use these emails boost retention by 2-3%.

But to make things simple, we took care of all email copy and had no functionality for product teams to collaborate and design their own emails.

That ends today.

Trophy now has an entirely native block-based email builder that allows you to design your own email copy and subject lines with support for personalization through variables, conditional rendering and text variations.

Block Types

As with all good email builders, the Trophy email builder supports headings, paragraphs, buttons, images and all regular blocks you'd expect.

But those are boring...

We've gone a step further and added powerful โšก Smart Blocks that leverage the full power of Trophy's context as a gamification platform, combined with the user interaction data you've collected through your Trophy Metrics.

These blocks make it super easy to build highly-engaging and personalized lifecycle email campaigns and can be set up in a few minutes.

โšก Streak Chart

If you use Streaks in Trophy, you can drop the streak block into your email and it will automatically show the recipient's current streak at send time according to your streak frequency (daily, weekly or monthly).

Use this in conjunction with a conditional block to build powerful emails that motivate recipients when they already have a long streak, whilst simultaneously reminding those about to lose their streak to come back and use your app again.

If any of your Trophy metrics have achievements assigned to them, the achievement progress chart will automatically display the recipients progress in a chart using your brand colors. This is great for showing users how close they are to their next big milestone.

This block will automatically display the recipients total against a single metric for the last 3-5 periods. This is great for showing users how far they've come since they started using your app.

This block automatically displays new achievements the recipient has unlocked. If the achievements have names and badges, then these will be displayed too. This is a quick and easy way to set up friendly congrats emails when users unlock achievements.

Smart Blocks make the Trophy email builder a much more relevant and powerful user engagement tool for teams running gamified platforms than any other generic email marketing tool.

Conditional Blocks

One block, endless possiblities.

Use conditional blocks to display different copy to recipients based on their user interaction data tracked through your Trophy metrics.

Here's an example where we display different content based on whether the recipient has an active streak or not:

Create conditions based on any recipient context from features like achievements, metrics or streaks. Conditions are evaluated when emails are sent, displaying the most relevant copy every time.

Using Text Variations

The number one source of disengagement with lifecycle email campaigns is they become too repetitive.

Text variations allow you to add alternate versions of text throughout your email copy and subject line. Trophy will pick a variation at random when the email is sent, making sure emails are never boring, improving engagement rates.

Streak Achievements

Trophy already had a powerful way to configure achievements based on user progress through metrics, and standalone interactions like completing onboarding.

In this update we're excited to add one more trigger to that list!

Streak Achievements

Streak achievements are automatically unlocked when users hit specific streak lengths that you specify, helping users celebrate their streak and making them more motivated to keep it up.

If you use a daily streak you could set up achievements for 7 day, 30 day or 365 day streaks. Or if you use a weekly streak, you could set up similar achievements for 3 weeks, 6 weeks etc.

The best part is you can set these up straight away without any changes required to your integration. Just set up streak achievements in the Trophy dashboard and the existing Trophy achievement APIs will start returning these alongside your existing achievements as users unlock them.

Free Tier ๐Ÿ‘

Starting today all new accounts can test and evaluate Trophy for free up to 100 monthly active users. This makes it easy for developers and product teams to figure out how to use Trophy best, before making any hard commitments.

This is an important step on our journey to make it possible for any product team, big or small, to operate highly-engaging gamified product experiences the likes of Duolingo and Strava would be proud of, but with drastically less effort.
